List of Expectations for Competitive Speech Students

• I will attend a MINIMUM of four tournaments. (I realize this is the minimum requirement and that in order to develop strong oratorical skills I should try to attend more tournaments than just the minimum required.  )
• I know that every tournament beyond the minimum four tournaments will be treated as extra credit.  I will receive at least 15 points for each tournament that I attend after the minimum amount has been satisfied. 
• I acknowledge that the Novice Tournament is to be used as extra credit and should not be used, except in an extreme emergency situation, as counting toward the minimum requirement.  
• I will work diligently on my presentation during class.
• I will exhibit proper speech decorum at all of the tournaments. 
• I will be on time for the bus.
• If I register for a tournament, I will be prepared and participate at that tournament. I realize that if I fail to appear on the day that I have signed up to participate, I will pay for my entry fee
• I will be open to coaching and be ready to vary my presentation based on the feedback that I receive at the tournaments and the suggestions of my coach.
• I acknowledge that my performance at the tournaments will play a factor in the determination of my grade.  
• If asked, I will participate in the State Qualifying Tournament.
• If I am a state qualifier, I will receive an A+ for the class and will be expected to compete at the State Tournament unless extraordinary circumstances prevent me from doing so. 
• If I am in an individual event aside from extemporaneous speaking or original oratory, I will have my presentation memorized by October 20th
•  If I am in original oratory, I will have my  initial speech written by October 20th   and will have it memorized by October 25th .
