Grade 8 Physical Education requires more competence in a variety of movement forms. Students apply these concepts and principles to the learning and development of more advanced motor skills and game strategy. The games will be taught in both a cooperative and competitive setting. Practicing appropriate problem-solving techniques to resolve conflicts when necessary in competitive settings will be emphasized. Students will reflect on the benefits of the role of rules, procedures, safe practices, ethical behavior, and positive social interaction in physical activity settings. In this course there will be a greater understanding of long-term health benefits and understanding the relationship of health maintenance to the quality of lifelong health. Overall, the 8th grade student will be given opportunity to socially participate in physical activity, trying new and challenging activities, while also recognizing it as a vehicle for self-expression.
